Moving to Idaho

 

Idaho became the 43rd state ON July 3rd, 1890. Idaho is affectionately known as the gem state due the original incorrect assumption that the name Idaho comes from the Indian name for gem or the mountain.

Origin of state’s name: The name Idaho was a word invented for the state and does not owe its origin to any Indian word as many people believe.

Capital

The states capital is Boise and the state is bordered by several other states including Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming

Population

The population of Idaho is in excess of 1.2 million people

Driving

Driver’s license information, applications, testing requirements, driver’s manuals and testing locations can all be found on the Idaho Department of Transportation’s website under the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Economy – The main agriculture is potatoes (famous Idaho potatoes), cattle and dairy, wheat, barely and sugar beet. The main industries are tourism, wood and wood products, and food processing.

State Bird: Idaho’s state bird is the Mountain Bluebird which is also Nevada’s state bird. The Mountain Bluebird has characteristic blue plumage on its back.

State Flower: The state flower is the Syringa or Philadelphus Lewissi which has a white fragrant flower.

State Song: The state Song is “Here we have Idaho” which is a wonderful song in praise of the state of Idaho.
