Moving to Colorado
Colorado is also known as the Centennial state as it became a state on Aug 1st
1876, the 100th anniversary year of the signing of the Declaration of
Independence.
Origin of state’s name: The name Colorado has its origins in the Spanish name
for red color as this was the color seen in the Colorado River.
Capital City: The capital of Colorado is Denver which is one of the fastest
growing cities in America and is situated at eh base of the Rocky Mountains. The
state is bordered by Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, Utah and
Wyoming.
Population: The population of the state is in excess of 4.3 million and growing

Economy: The main agriculture which drives the economy is corn and wheat
followed by cattle farming and milk production. The main industries in the state
are medical equipment, mining, food processing and of course tourism.
State Bird: The state bird is the Prairie Lark Finch which has quite the musical
voice
State Flower: The state flower is the Aquilegia caerules of Rocky Mountain
columbine which is very fragile and is becoming increasingly rare so much so
that state has enacted laws to protect it from being picked in some places.
State Song: The state song is the “where the columbines grow” by A.J. Flynn that
sings the praises of this great state.
Colorado - Interesting Facts
Colorado's southwest corner borders Arizona, New Mexico and Utah the only place
in America where the corners of four states meet.
Denver, lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger. The trademark for the
name Cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Louis Ballast.
Katherine Lee Bates wrote “America the Beautiful” after being inspired by the
view from Pikes Peak.
Hundreds of thousands of valentines are re-mailed each year from Loveland.
Each year Denver host the worlds largest Rodeo, the Western Stock show.
Denver has the largest city park system in the nation with 205 parks in City
limits and 20,000 Acres of parks in the nearby mountains.

and entertainers. These include the actor Douglas Fairbanks who hails from
Denver and Tim Allen, the well known actor is from Denver. Jack Dempsey the
boxer was also born in Colorado in Manassa.
