Moving to Alabama
Alabama or as it is commonly called the Yellowhammer state became the 22nd state
on Dec 14 1819. The name Yellowhammer is a reference to the large number of
Yellowhammers in the state. The Yellowhammer is also the state bird.
Origin of state’s name: The word Alabama means tribal town in the Creek Indian
language.
Capital City: The state capital is Montgomery and the state is bordered by four
other states, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi and the Gulf of Mexico to
the south. The state has approximately 610 miles of shore line
Population: The state has a population in excess of 4.5 million based on the
last census in 2000.
